I’ve been writing about the politics of technology for almost a decade. These days I publish much of my work at Disconnect.

I was critical of Elon Musk long before it was popular. My work is why a lot of people know the Hyperloop was a scam to fuel opposition to California high-speed rail. I’ve also written a lot about Uber’s exploitative business model, among other transport and climate issues. More recently, my focus has shifted to the high cost of data centers and tech billionaires’ open embrace of far-right politics.

My first book Road to Nowhere: What Silicon Valley Gets Wrong about the Future of Transportation was published in 2022 and later translated into Portuguese. I’ve started working on my second — expect more details soon. I’m also the co-author of a white paper trying to change how we think about digital sovereignty.

My work has been published by Time, Wired, NBC News, Business Insider, CBC News, Toronto Star, and MIT Technology Review. I used to write a lot for Jacobin. I’ve also written for the New Statesman, North & South in New Zealand, Internazionale, and publications around the world in over a dozen languages.
